How we work.

We start with being clear about the definition of the situation.

  • We work to reveal the underlying circumstances of the case.

  • We offer analysis of how the assumed definitions in which management operates may be misaligned with the broader social and market contexts of the present and evolving moments.

  • We work with principals to create options for how to correct misalignments in the definition of the situation.

  • We work to orchestrate decisions, including facilitating adoption and commitment by staff, external stakeholders, and other relevant parties.

  • Then, we focus on supporting delivery of decisions and their exectuion, where appropriate.

Here is an example.

An electric power client saw the trajectory of its business crashing in twenty to thirty years as carbon-based power generation closures happened. The definition of the situation included assumptions about stranded costs being unrecoverable in its wake. Enterprise integrity was further challenged by new demands on electricity services at the distribution end of its supply chain. The prospect of excessive new costs to adapt to the penetration of electric vehicles disrupted existing financial plans, adding risk to investments and to debt instruments that were critical elements supporting the entire business model. Management could not see a profitable path forward. We helped realign the enterprise to focus on an intentionally managed migration from conventional carbon-based resources to a diversified remix of both supply-side and demand-side energy assets. It involved emphasizing localized generation more integrated into points of and types of end-use, in turn reducing grid reliability risks to local distribution wires. The integrity of integrated grid systems would be maintained with resiliency, agility, and reliability of electricity services to consumers consequentially enhanced.

This is how we manage our practice.

Every case is different. Each case requires experienced advisors and extensive client engagement. This is why we limit our client engagements in-flight to only a few. We control the inbound queue for the same reasons. We will not over commit. Nor will we string prospective clients along while other work is completed. Always we deliver our best efforts and work to ensure our clients are satisfied with our services.
